With more than 20 years of experience, Mike Davies advises institutional investors, financial institutions and corporations on political risk, sustainable finance and responsible investment. As Founder of Kigoda Consulting, he works with clients to navigate complex investment environments, develop sustainable finance strategies and strengthen governance and stewardship practices.
Mike is the Founder and CEO of Kigoda Consulting, an independent consultancy providing specialist political risk and sustainable investment advisory services. The firm supports investors, financial institutions, companies and development organisations in understanding geopolitical risk, responsible investment and sustainable finance across sub-Saharan Africa.
Mike has specialist knowledge of sub-Saharan Africa, particularly South Africa, across the financial, mining, energy and telecommunications sectors. His recent work includes developing sustainability-linked bond frameworks, creating benchmarks for institutional policy analysis and capital market development, and assessing organisations' performance on responsible investment and climate finance mainstreaming.
He has also contributed to the development of responsible investment practices by designing training programmes for trustees and asset owners, supporting institutions in implementing responsible investment policies, and drafting sustainability disclosure requirements.
Before establishing Kigoda Consulting in 2012, Mike spent a decade with three of the UK's leading political and global risk consultancies. During this time, he advised multinational corporations, asset managers and international financial institutions on political risk, responsible investment and the opportunities and challenges of investing across emerging markets.
Mike combines deep regional expertise with practical experience in sustainable finance, helping clients make informed investment decisions while responding to evolving regulatory, governance and sustainability expectations.
