Sustainability integration into the business operations (Hospitality & Tourism sector)

6-step Sustainability Programme which provides a clear framework for transitioning from basic resource efficiency to purpose-driven, impactful sustainability. This structure ensures that actions are practical, measurable, and tailored to your specific operations.

As a sustainable business model integration programme includes:

    • Assessment Diagnosis
Analyzing current operations (energy, water, waste, sourcing, packaging, guest services,
staff practices) and identifying gaps on each of the 6 sustainability levels.

    •  Strategy Design
Creating a sustainability roadmap (using my 6-step programme as a framework). Defining
    priorities (short-term quick wins + long-term vision).

    •  Implementation Guidance
Advise on practical measures (e.g., waste utilization, refillable amenities, local sourcing, eco-
certifications, clients and partners engagement, marketing activities, etc).

    • Capacity Building
Strategies of training staff/managers on sustainable practices (so it sticks).

    • Monitoring & Reporting
Setting up simple KPIs so the hostel can track progress and communicate it (internally and
to guests). This is crucial for building trust and avoiding greenwashing in marketing.

    • Marketing & Positioning
Advise on how to communicate sustainability authentically (avoid greenwashing, turn actions
into value for guests). Marketing strategy and a 6-month plan for digital/online messaging
    and brand awareness creation (optional)

How the collaboration works in practice:

    • Phase 1: Assessment (2–3 weeks)
Sustainability audit: review energy, water, waste, food & beverage, supply chain, and staff
policies. Guest experience review: where sustainability can add value (e.g., refill stations, seed
    planting workshops, storytelling in marketing).
Deliverable: Sustainability Snapshot Report with key improvement areas.

    • Phase 2: Strategy & Roadmap (1 month)
Co-create a Sustainability Roadmap (based on the 6-step programme).
Define KPIs (energy, waste, sourcing, guest engagement, etc.).
Deliverable: Sustainability Action Plan (12–18 months roadmap, quick wins + long-term
    goals).

    • Phase 3: Implementation Support (ongoing, 3–6 months)
Monthly mentoring sessions with managers (online or on-site).
Guidance on guest-facing initiatives (e.g., zero-waste experiences, compost program, eco-
    tours).
Deliverable: Monthly progress check-ins + adjusted plan.

    • Phase 4: Communication & Branding (optional)
Support in communicating sustainability on the website, booking platforms, and social
media. Avoiding greenwashing while attracting eco-conscious travelers.
