Michael Preisel is an expert in strategic asset allocation and pension design, bringing more than 20 years of experience across actuarial, financial, and statistical disciplines. He helps pension funds and financial institutions improve outcomes for savers by aligning investment strategies with long-term retirement needs and demographic realities.
Michael’s career includes nearly two decades at ATP, where he rose to Vice President and Head of Quantitative Research.. More recently, he served as Risk Officer and Investment Officer at the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund in New York, ALM Senior Manager Principal at Railpen (UK) alongside his role as Part-time Lecturer at the University of Copenhagen.
His expertise spans asset-liability management, risk management, and product development, ensuring pension solutions are both financially sound and practically implementable. Michael has worked across asset allocation, insurance, and risk management, collaborating with economists, actuaries, lawyers, statisticians, and programmers to deliver strategies that balance growth, risk, and sustainability.
In addition to advising pension funds, Michael has contributed to global pension system reforms. He has advised the World Economic Forum and chaired international working groups on Dutch and Chilean pension reform, as well as participating in reform discussions in Australia.
